Mental health problems are conditions that impair a person’s ability to manage daily routines, relationships, work, self-care, and other responsibilities. The severity of these issues can range from mild to severe.

Mental health issues can affect anyone—children, adolescents, adults, and seniors; males, females, and those of other genders; individuals living in rural, urban, or semi-urban areas; and people of any marital status. In essence, anyone with a mind, heart, and body can be affected.

Mental health issues can arise from various factors including: Genetics and hereditary conditions Personal losses (e.g., death of a loved one, divorce, separation) Traumatic or unscrupulous experiences Unforeseen incidents or accidents Ongoing stressors (e.g., work, business, finances) Physiological health issues (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, thyroid imbalances) Emotional factors (e.g., fear of failure, hidden fears)

People with mental health challenges can be found within our families, among friends, relatives, and colleagues. They may be in any community or social setting.

The best way to support someone struggling with mental health problems is to seek professional help. Consult a psychologist for therapy and a general physician for a comprehensive health evaluation. In more severe cases, a psychiatrist may be required for specialized treatment.
